Solidarity statement: Freedom for Hamza & Mohamed

The European Union must stop the arbitrary incarceration of refugees and migrants

We express our solidarity with Hamza Haddi and Mohamed Haddar who are currently being held in pre-trial detention in Komotini, Greece. Both are facing long prison sentences because they are being wrongfully and arbitrarily accused of “smuggling”.

Hamza Haddi and Mohamed Haddar are Moroccan citizens who fled their country searching for protection and better living conditions, Hamza Haddi in particular is a known political activist who was hoping to be granted political asylum in Europe. In Morocco, he is facing political persecution for his activities during the Arab Spring as well as for his engagement with the Moroccan Human Rights Association L’Association Marocaine Des Droits Humains AMDH. He has been imprisoned three times and, together with his family, been constantly targeted and intimidated by Moroccan authorities. Hamza is a political refugee.

With Europe’s ever-increasing closure of borders and the impossibility for refugees to legally enter Europe and claim asylum, they were forced to embark and risk their lives on a makeshift boat. Hamza, who had fled from Morocco together with his brother Yassine went on to meet two companions on the way; Reda and Mohamed in Turkey. There, they spent only a few days before attempting to cross the Evros river that marks the border between Turkey and Greece in July 2019.

In Greece, the four arrived, only to be immediately arrested by Greek border police. But not enough. Hamza Haddi and Mohamed Haddar are now accused of and are facing trial for the “smuggling” of two persons – one of them being Hamza’s own brother Yassine!

The accusations against Hamza and Mohamed are clearly unfounded. They are refugees, not smugglers.

Their companion Reda was coerced into signing a testimony that is now being used to wrongly accuse Hamza and Mohamed as being the smugglers. Reda can neither speak nor read Greek and later confirmed that the written document does not match his statement.

Consequently since July 2019, Hamza and Mohamed have been held in pre-trial detention in Greece and are facing more than ten years of imprisonment each. The basis of their trail is placed upon a testimony signed under pressure and without an interpreter.

We are calling for their immediate release!

The case of Hamza and Mohamed is unfortunately not an isolated case but paradigmatic for yet another facet of Europe’s policy of closing borders and deterrence. While European supporters or so-called “human rights defenders” such as Carola Rackete or the iuventa10 have recently received a lot of attention and support after having become the target of increasing criminalisation, there is hardly any information nor support for those without a European passport facing the very same accusations. However, it is them who constitute the majority of those being arrested and imprisoned in Italy and Greece on grounds of alleged “smuggling” and “aiding illegal immigration”. Arrested immediately upon arrival, a lot of them disappear unknown and unheard of and with no access to support from outside.

The basis for this is Greek legislation that considers any person found to have driven a vehicle across Greek borders, entering Greece without required documentation, as a smuggler.

The arrests as well as trials that follow these often-unfounded accusations of smuggling are arbitrary. Police officers might accuse the person holding the tiller to steer the boat, or the one who communicated with the coast guard to call for help or simply someone who speaks English, to be a smuggler. In Greece, the average trial lasts only around 30 minutes, leading to an average sentence of 44 years and fines over 370.000 Euro. Suspects, or what we would deem ‘victims’ of this unjust legislation, usually have limited access to legal assistance, most of them relying on public defenders. Observers voice concerns about a “shocking lack of deep processing”, reporting that judgements are pronounced despite lack of evidence and poor quality of translation.

This statement is to express our solidarity with Hamza Haddi and Mohamed Haddar and all those criminalized and deprived of their basic rights in the European Union’s proclaimed fight against “smugglers”. We call on everyone to condemn the arbitrary application of anti-smuggling laws against people on the move, who are often already in fear of their lives. We denounce the exploitation of the vulnerable situation of asylum seekers by the EU member states, leaving them without the means to properly defend themselves.

Together with the Hamza Haddi and Mohamed Haddar support committee we demand:

• The immediate release of Hamza Haddi and Mohamed Haddar.
• All charges against them to be dropped, and their innocence to be recognized.
• Hamza’s asylum application to be accepted and his asylum granted.
• Regularisation of the situation of Hamza and Mohamed, and freedom of movement for all.

We further demand:

    • Freedom for all those that are suffering the same fate, being imprisoned in Greek and Italian prisons because they were looking for a better life.
• A change in the Greek and Italian law in order to remove the legal grounds for these arbitrary arrests and convictions.

No holidays in Petrou Ralli: A LETTER FROM DETAINED WOMEN

On December 19, 2019, was our last visit to Petrou Ralli Detention Center. Once more the number of detainees had increased and reached no50 50 women from 15 different countries. Indonesia, Ethiopia, Albania, Afghanistan, Georgia, Iran, Italy, Cameroon, China, Tibet, Belarus, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria, and Turkey. In our effort to talk with them, some police officers were in such close proximity that prevented women to express themselves freely about situations they experience. The behavior of some officers was also provoking towards us.

A characteristic testimony: “When we came here they forbade us to wear our headscarves and told us:” Out of here you can be Muslim, here NO! Here you are Christians… ”

Another testimony: “A police officer invaded into the shower room, while a prisoner was bathing, and made her pull the towel…” At the time, the health of several of them was very bad. Despite our own pressure for two women to be transferred to a hospital as emergency cases, nothing really changed. Τhese women are still very sick. Also, there are no doctors during weekends and during the night time, at Petrou Ralli. On Christmas day we were informed by relatives of prisoners for possible initiation of a few women on hunger strike. The day after our visit they started writing their experiences in the following denunciation letter, where they describe them with their own voices. Experiences that we can simply only imagine. Women from six different countries asked their will for their letter to be publicized. When you have lost everything you do not fear anything.

Their voices should be heard in the whole world. You can discuss it in your assemblies. The organizations and institutions that talk about human rights should stop fooling us and playing with the plight of migrants and refugees, who are led to extermination.

We stand by and admire these women for their bravery and solidarity they show to each other…

“Greece, Allodapon (Immigrant House) PRISON 20-12-2019

That so-called-immigration office is such a hideous and villainous place that makes anyone forget his/her humanity. Nothing is legal here. Lies, molestation, sexual abuse, diseases, neglection, squalidity, ill-treatment, beating, insult…You literally face with all of these.

Above all, how can they dare? If Europe doesn’t know, how come they dare? Maybe it is a conspiracy! Here we are locked into wards 3-4 times a day which are filthy and full of lice. Only after hitting the iron fences over and over, a policewoman asks «what», by shouting and insulting. They treat us as if we are animals. (not even animals should be treated like this). They took our mobile phones on the first day and didn’t give it back to prevent us to take pictures or videos. Even the lawyers can’t come inside. When the volunteers of organization companies come we are locked. Volunteers are told a lot of lies. For example, they are told we stay here 2 weeks maximum. Most of us are here for 1,5 months. There are people here who stay for 4 months without being told anything.

We are being taken to airing twice a day like herds. When the time is off, they shout ‘Inside’, and lock us inside the wards. When people need to go to the toilets, they have to shout, punch, kick the doors. Sometimes, only sometimes, a policewoman comes after 15-20 minutes. Other times no one comes. Even if one of us dies at those times, no one cares.

Ceylan Pinar Kanli, Turkish. Everybody is sick. Everybody has wounds because of the filth. Some of us even have cysts. For example, I have cysts all over my body. After 5 days, they took me to the doctor inside the immigration house. He said “you should go to the hospital immediately. You need a blood analysis. It is urgent.” Despite that, they make me wait. It has been 5 days.

We do the cleaning ourselves. We have neither shampoo nor soap. Nothing… The ones who have visitors are lucky, what about the others? They ask the ones with visitors to buy things for their needs if they have money. Our friends without money, they either ask to share or they smell.

There is no word to describe the toilets. No detergents, no soaps, nothing! The toilets changed their color because of the dirt and filth. The ones with wet handkerchiefs wrap their noses and face to be able to enter the toilets. The ones without handkerchiefs mostly vomit.

And the policemen! Under the pretext of distributing food, they touch and harass women. This is a horrible place.

The ward on the right belongs to men. The inhuman beating by the police (the victim was a man called MECIT) shouldn’t be ignored. 4 cops kicked him to death barbarously. I can’t forget his ashamed looks because he was beaten in front of all of us.

The food they give both cold and smells! Tomatoes and oranges are rotten. Even to drink water we have a timetable. Water drinking time… We have to drink that disgusting, smelling water. When I said ‘I can’t drink this water. May I buy from outside?’ the policemen laughed a lot and said ‘You have to’. There are a lot of things to say about that place… The sentences on the walls, relentless tears, and continuous supplications.

Aisha from Somalia, who can’t walk because of the cysts, who is taken to hospital in the middle of the night and when the inflammation gets a bit better, taken back in prison.

And us, who are insulted every day, 1 Iranian, 3 Albanian girls who were abused.

That place is not an immigration office, it is a torture house. I believe I will be able to go out but it’s not only me. After me, there are lots of women who haven’t got any money, a lawyer. They have no one. There are children hereunder 18 and it is not legal.

Please help us. The women who were on indefinite hunger strike ate for the first time after 3 days. No one cares.

Esraa Kreash (Syria), age 22. Esraa is on medication for her psychological condition under the supervision of a doctor twice a day. However, the police gave her only once at night. For a day, they didn’t give her any. Then, Esra didn’t take the pills at night and the next day she took two of the pills. Because she took two pills in a day (she took one in a day for 20 days before), she slept. When she woke up, she went out airing. The police said that the time was off. She had to go inside, but she knew neither English nor Greek. So she didn’t understand.

After that, the police pulled her arms hard and pushed her. Esra attacked the police’s hair. 4 police came from inside. 2 policemen handcuffed her, 2 policewomen hit her arms. And in front of all of us, they dragged her on the floor and locked her in a cell. They left her handcuffed in the cell without food until night. She cried a lot, knocked the door continuously but they didn’t open it until the night shift. She only knows to say ‘sorry’ in English. She said it tons of times, over and over. Only after that, they opened the door. Her roommates asked food for Esra, but they didn’t give any.

She says ‘I haven’t used psychological drugs before. When I came to this prison, the doctor here gave them to me. She is here for 25 days. She has no visitor, neither money nor a lawyer. She retained a lawyer but because she doesn’t have money, the lawyer doesn’t come. She signed for asylum in Leros 3 months ago. Then she went to Lefkada and she was caught there while going to Italy on the ship and was taken to Allodapon. For 3 months, she has been waiting for the interview. 25.12.2019

Meryen Zare, from Iran who was swindled by her lawyer, hasn’t got any money and a lawyer. Neither translator nor visitor. She asked someone who knows English to write a letter to the police saying ‘Please send a translator or I will kill myself.’ Meryem has been waiting for the answer for 3 days. She is all alone, doesn’t know what to do, without a translator. She has gone on an indefinite hunger strike for 3 days. Today we made her eat.

Glory, from Nigeria, has been waiting to be free although she has been here for 2 months and finished 2 interviews. She is still an indefinite hunger striker! 26.12.2019″

Reading the denouncing letter of these women, in comparison with Article 21, on the rights of detainees, from the Decision: “Establishment, operation, and regulation of the aliens’ pre-removal centers(APC)”, one can easily, and leniently speaking, realize the tragic irony:

[Thessaloniki] Polizei greift Karawane von Griechenland nach Mazedonien an

Stand vom 5.4.2019: Derzeit gibt es in Nordgriechenland Mobilisierungen an die griechisch-mazedonische (bzw. griechisch-ablanische) Grenze. Tausende Menschen machen sich in einer Karawane auf den Weg, mit dem Ziel die Grenze zu überqueren. Tausende von Cops versuchen dies zu verhindern und haben die Karawane gestern mit Tränengas angegriffen, einzelne Menschen wurden verhaftet.

Viele Menschen sammeln sich bei einem wilden Camp in Diavata (bei Thessaloniki), das quasi stündlich wächst.

Es gibt schon Videos und Bilder von Polizeigewalt, aber auch zB. Fotos von Frauen* und Kindern, die den Cops Blumen reichen.

Einer der Auslöser der Proteste ist, dass der griechische Staat Refugees aus den Unterkünften schmeißen wird, die länger als 6 Monate dort gelebt haben. Außerdem wird es massive Kürzungen in den Sozialleistungen für Refugees geben.

[Hurriya] Freispruch für 60 Angeklagte der Hurriya-Besetzung

Freispruch  für 60 Angeklagte im letzten Gerichtstermin der Hurriya-Besetzung am 17. September 2018

Nach bereits fünf Verschiebungen der Prozesstermine seit der Räumung der gefüchtetensolidarischen Hurriya-Besetzung in Thessaloniki nach dem No Border Camp im Juli 2016, ist es nun endlich zu einer Urteilsverkündung gekommen. Den 60 angeklagten Personen wurde Störung öffentlichen Friedens und kollektive Beteiligung an krimineller Sachbeschädigung in besonders hohem Wert vorgeworfen. 30 von 60 Personen wurde darüber hinaus Verstoß gegen das Präsidialdekret vorgeworfen (hierbei handelt es sich vermutlich um diejenigen, die die Abgabe von Fingerabdrücke und Fotos verweigert haben).

Anmerkung: Die oben genannten Vorwürfe sind aus dem griechischen Gesetz und ins Deutsche übersetzt, deshalb nicht eins zu eins auf deutsche Rechtslage übertragbar.

Aufgrund des Mangels an personalisierten Beweisen der 60 Personen war das gerichtliche Urteil ein Freispruch in allen oben aufgezählten Punkten für alle Beteiligten dieses Gerichtsprozesses. Die 60 Angeklagten wurden von sechs solidarischen Anwält*innen vertreten und die Kosten, die für diesen Prozess entstanden sind, trägt die Kampagne You cant evict solidarity.

Ein großer Dank und Anerkennung geht an die sechs Anwält*innen, die die Menschen ausdauernd in den immer wieder verschobenen Prozessterminen vertreten haben! Wir freuen uns,sehr über das positive Resultat des Prozesses mit einem Freispruch für alle – insbesondere in so extrem repressiven Zeiten wie diesen.

Dennoch: noch immer sind viele Menschen von Repressionen betroffen und dafür geht der Kampf weiter!

[Thessaloniki – Griechenland ] Linkes Squat “Libertatia” von FaschistInnen angegriffen und abgebrannt

Angriffe aus Demo von 40.000 „aufrechten“ Griech*innen

Es war ca. 16 Uhr am Nachmittag, die antinationale Gegendemo wurde gerade aufgelöst, als uns die Nachricht erreichte, dass nach einer Serie von Angriffen auf solidarische Häuser das linke Squat Libertatia abgebrannt wurde.

Der Namensstreit um das Nachbarland von Griechenland schwelt schon lange. In den 90er Jahren gingen hunderttausende Menschen in Griechenland auf die Straßen, um ihren Unmut kundzutun. Im Kern wird der Name Mazedonien alleinig der Region Nordgriechenlands zugeschrieben. Auch die „Nationalität“ Alexanders des Großen wird in Frage gestellt. Mazedoniens orthodoxe Bevölkerung wird auch aufgrund der Religion als griechisch angesehen und eines der Banner auf der Demo in Thessaloniki am 21. Januar 2018 trug die Aufschrift „WIR sind Mazedonien“.

Zu der Demo rief ein sehr unterschiedliches Spektrum auf, von christlich-orthodoxen Priestern bis zu nationalistisch-konservativen Oppositionsparteien und Rechtsextremen; die Stimmung auf dem Platz war geprägt von tausenden blau-weißen Flaggen, martialisch auftretenden Neo-Nazis aber auch Familien mit Kindern.

Mazedoniens Bestreben in die NATO aufgenommen zu werden oder der EU beizutreten, wird von Athen mit seinem Veto-Recht blockiert. Es werden Forderungen geaeussert, dass Mazedonien seinen Namen vollständig ändern soll, auf griechischen Landkarten wird es als „ehemalige jugoslawische Republik Mazedonien“ bezeichnet. Auch Alexis Tsipras aeusserte sich, angesichts der fortschreitenden Verhandlungen mit der NATO, man solle in Betracht ziehen, dass es ein „Nord-Mazedonien“ oder ein „Neu-Mazedonien“ geben könne, um diesen „nationalen Unsinn“ zu beenden.

Wie das Libertatia in eigenen Stellungnahmen schreibt, haben die Angriffe auf die besetzten Häuser im Schutze dieser Massendemonstration stattgefunden und ist auch nur durch die Deckung dieser nationalistischen Menge möglich gewesen. Die Stimmung in Thessaloniki kippte an diesem Tag, hin zu einem Klima der Angst und Repression. Migrantischen* Freunden wurde empfohlen nicht aus dem Haus zu gehen. Später am Abend wurde berichtet, dass maskierte und mit Knüppeln bewaffnete Rechtsextreme auf Motorrädern durch die Stadt patrouillierten.

Ein Mob aus 60-70 Faschisten und Fußball-Hooligans griff unter anderem das soziale Zentrum Skoleio („Schule“) mit Steinen an und wurde von der anwesenden Polizei nicht daran gehindert. Das Libertatia berichtet von einem ersten Angriff, der abgewehrt werden konnte. Später wurde das Libertatia ein zweites Mal von einem Mob mit Banner in Anwesenheit von Polizeikräften angegriffen. Dieses Mal flogen Bengalos, die aufgrund der chemischen Reaktion extrem schwer zu löschen sind, in das Haus. Protestierende Nachbar*innen wurden beschimpft und zum Teil auch beworfen. Die Polizei stand währenddessen mit einem Streifenwagen und einem Auto der Zivilpolizei daneben und griff nicht ein.

Im Zuge dessen brannte das Libertatia vollständig aus.

Das Kollektiv des Libertatia rief daraufhin zu einer Solidaritätsdemonstration am darauffolgenden Tag auf. Diese war kraftvoll, energisch und lautstark. Gegen Ende der Demonstration griff die Polizei die DemonstrantInnen mit Tränengas an. Im Zuge von kleineren Rangeleien wegen einer Blockade durch die Polizei wurden fünf Protestierende festgenommen, der Gerichtstermin für eine eventuelle Untersuchungshaft findet am Freitagvormittag, 26.01.18, statt.

Squat Libertatia’s statement regarding today’s arson

Today – Sunday, January 21th – around 1.30pm and just before the
nationalist gathering for Macedonia, fascist teams who took part in it
realized several attacks on occupied spaces.
First, they attacked the free social space "Σχολείο" and they were
rejected with success by our comrades. Then, they approach our squat,
provoking some damages on the facade and the fence. These damages were
fixed immediately by the members of our collective, who then decided to
join the antinationalist gathering in Kamara. About two hours later, a
group of some 60/70 fascists attacked again our squat with molotov
cocktails and distress flares, which provoked the fire. At this time,
there were no-one left in the building as everyone were in the gathering
in Kamara. While the attack was going on, there were so many cops in
plain clothes and vans of the antiriot police (τα ΜΑΤ) who were staying
next to the squat. They covered the attack without intervening.
The resistance of the neighborhood must be noticed, as some people went
to their balconies and screamed at the fascists, who replied insulting
them and throwing flares to them. When the fascists tried to head again
towards Σχολείο, the police was already there holding the place,
covering the fascists and locking the comrades inside the building.
Don’t be fooled: these attacks and the setting on fire of the building
couldn’t have happened without the « support » of the gathering for
Macedonia. They were going there and they were coming back from there.
All the far-right and neo-nazi groups were calling for this gathering
but no-one gave a fuck about it, offering them social legitimacy and
public space so they could express and act freely. We know very well
that all this couldn’t have happened under other circumstances and
that’s why everyone should clarify its position regarding fascism. All
these energies from such actual and real groups work as supplements for
the repression from the State agains those who fight and resist for
something better. Everyone should have a stand regarding the arson of a
building with more than a century of history which has been abandoned
for decades. The arson of a building that we, anarchists, libertarian
communists and revolutionnaries, have decided to renove and maintain,
first to cover housing needs of proletarians, migrants and people who
are expelled by the State and Capitalism and also in order to create a
radical political space where people can grow together and promote a new
libertarian culture. It must be clear to everyone that we are here
talking about a criminal act, which could have ended with tragic
consequences, i.e deaths.
These attacks doesn’t mean that we will stop fighting against the State,
capitalism and fascism. No attack can manage neither terrorizing us nor
making us do curtsey for any fascist, but with conscience and
determination, for a society of equality and freedom, we will continue
to fight our ideal.

[Thessaloniki] Besetzung Libertatia von Faschist*innen niedergebrannt

Am vergangenen Sonntag (21. Januar 2018) wurde in Thessaloniki (Griechenland) am Rande einer Großdemo griechischer Nationalist*innen die Hausbesetzung Libertatia von Faschist*innen niedergebrannt. Thessaloniki: Besetztes Haus von Faschisten niedergebrannt – Stellungnahme der Besetzung Libertatia

Heute, am Sonntag, dem 21.1.2018, um circa 13.30, kurz bevor die nationalistische Demonstration für den Namen Mazedonien anfing, haben faschistische Gruppen, welche an dieser Demo teilnahmen, eine Serie von Angriffen auf verschiedene Besetzungen in Thessaloniki begonnen. Nachdem sie das freie, soziales Zentrum und Besetzung „Scholio“ angriffen, wo sie mit Erfolg zurückgeschlagen werden konnten, griffen sie unsere Besetzung an und verursachten Schäden am Zaun und an der Fassade. Diese Schäden wurden von Mitgliedern unserer Gruppe sofort wieder repariert. Unsere Gruppe entschied sich danach, an der anti-nationalistischen Versammlung am Kamara teilzunehmen. Nach etwa zwei Stunden wurde unsere Besetzung von einer Gruppe von 60–70 Faschisten erneut angegriffen. Dieses Mal mit Molotowcocktails und Bengalen, wodurch das ganze Haus in Brand gesteckt wurde. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt befand sich niemand im Gebäude, wegen der Versammlung am Kamara. Während der ganzen Attacke auf die Besetzung waren Zivilpolizisten und ein Bus der Spezialeinheit MAT vor der Besetzung parkiert. Sie schützten den Angriff und zeigten keine weitere Reaktion. Die Reaktionen der Nachbarschaft müssen erwähnt werden. Die Leute standen auf den Balkonen und schrieen die Faschisten an. Diese schimpften Beleidigungen zurück und warfen auch auf die Nachbarn Bengalen. Als die Faschisten danach erneut die Besetzung „Scholio“ angriffen, legte die Poliziei dieselbe Parteilichkeit an den Tag: die Angreifer wurden beschützt und die GenossInnen des „Scholio“ wurden in ihrem Gebäude eingeschlossen.

Wir sollten uns nicht täuschen: Ohne der Mazedonien-Demo wären diese Angriffe der Faschisten nicht möglich gewesen, denn diese Demo war ein Schutzraum für die faschistischen Angriffe. Die Angreifer gingen zu dieser Demo und kamen von ihr wieder zurück.
Alle rechtsextremen und Neonazi-Gruppen riefen zu dieser Demo auf, aber niemand kümmerte dieses Faktum. Ihnen wurde dadurch soziale Legitimität und öffentlicher Raum geboten, um sich auszudrücken und zu handeln. Wir sind uns ganz genau bewußt, dass diese Dinge unter anderen Umständen nicht möglich gewesen wären, und deswegen muss jeder und jede darüber nachdenken, wie er sich gegen Faschismus stellen kann. Diese Aktionen paramilitärischer Gruppen funktionieren als Unterstützung der staatlichen Repression gegen alle Menschen, die kämpfen, und für etwas Besseres einstehen. Denken wir alle darüber nach, wer von der Brandstiftung an einem Gebäude mit einer mehr als hundertjährigen Geschichte profitiert, welches für mehrere Jahrzehnte leergestanden ist. Ein Gebäude, das wir als Anarchisten, libertäre Kommunisten und Revolutionäre entschieden, zu besetzen und zu renovieren, einerseits um den Bedarf an Wohnraum von Proletariern, Immigranten und Leuten, die von Staat und Kapital angegriffen werden zu decken, anderereits um einen freien Raum radikaler politischer Auseinandersetzungen von Individuen zu schaffen und eine neue, libertäre Kultur zu fördern. Es muss deutlich festgestellt werden, dass es sich um eine kriminelle Aktion handelt, die auch ein weit tragischeres Ergebnis zur Folge gehabt haben könnte, das heißt Tote.

Diese Angriffe werden uns auf keinen Fall aufhalten. Wir werden den Faschisten keinen solchen Gefallen tun, sondern weiterhin mit stählernem Bewusstsein und Trotz für eine Gesellschaft von Gleichheit und Freiheit und unsere Ideale kämpfen! Gegen Staat, Kapital und Faschismus!
Kein Angriff kann uns terrorisieren!

[Thessaloniki] Urteil im Prozess gegen Albatros-Besetzer*innen

Heute, am 15. Dezember 2017, wurden die 9 Besetzer*innen der Besetzung Albatros zu 6 Monaten Haft auf 3 Jahre Bewährung verurteilt. Die verurteilten Besetzer*innen und ihre Unterstützer*innen haben angekündigt gegen das Urteil in Berufung zu gehen. Wir als “You can`t evict solidarity”-Kampagne werden sie dabei finanziell unterstützen.

Die Geflüchteten-solidarische Besetzung “Albatros” war im Herbst 2016 nach der Räumung der besetzten Häuser “Orfanotrofeio”, “Hurriya” und “Nikis” während dem No Border Camp in Thessaloniki im Juli 2016 entstanden. Sie wurde am 5. April 2017 geräumt. Dabei wurden im Haus 13 Menschen von der griechischen Polizei verhaftet, sowie 9 Unterstützer*innen vor dem Gebäude.

Im Folgenden dokumentieren wie ein Statement von Besetzer*innen des Albaross zum Prozess und dem Urteil:

On the 15th of December 2017 the prosecution of the people
 evicted from the squatted house Albatross in april this year continued.
 The owners of the house tried to sue for damages, allegedly caused by
 the squatters who fixed a lot of problems in the house which was
 abandoned for ten years before it was brought to live again, and even
 the judge had to acknowledge this was a ridiculous claim.

 However everybody who was arrested in the house was found guilty of
 squatting, except for one person from germany who hired a lawyer that
 spoke out against squatting in court with the only aim of getting an
innocent verdict for his client. This shows plainly how the
 justice system rewards people denying the violence and contradictions
we are confronted with every day and paying lip
 service to the state. They are charged with 6 month prison on three
years probation. Another person, that was not arrested during the
eviction but present during the arrest is charged with 7 months prison
on three years probation for resisting the police.

 Those of us without european passports, were other than in similar
cases also charged and
 found guilty for squatting. Not everybody has the chance to choose how
one wants to live and some were just trying to live a more dignified
life than in the camps around thessaloniki. It is an attempt to scare
those who are oppressed from acting and speaking out against their
marginalisation and oppression.

The clearly political trial and the populistic media campaign
surrounding it show once more that a system that knows only profit and
efficency is neither able nor willing to ensure the needs of people.
Property is the base of this system, establishing and manifesting the
divisions of rich and poor, european and non-european and therefore
deciding who has the right for a dignified life and who doesn't.

 While we are happy that the owners will not be able to extort money
 from us with the help of the legal system we will not accept this
 decision! With our lawyers we are confident to be able to reach an
 innocent verdict in an appeal.

Heute, den 15. Dezember 2017, wurde die Strafverfolgung der Menschen,
die im April diesen Jahres bei der Räumung des besetzten Hauses
"Albatross" festgenommen wurden, forgesetzt. Die Besitzer*innen des
Hauses versuchten die Angeklagten auf Sachschaden, der angeblich von den
Besetzer*innen am Haus begangen wurde, zu verklagen. Dieser Vorwurf ist
lächerlich, wie selbst der Richter anerkennen musste, da die
Besetzer*innen das Haus, das seit 10 Jahren leer stand, wieder in einen
bewohnbaren Zustand versetzten.

Bis auf eine Person aus Deutschland, die einen separaten Anwalt
beauftragt hatte, der sich vor Gericht mit dem einzigen Ziel, einen
Freispruch zu erlangen, gegen Hausbesetzungen aussprach, wurden alle
Angeklagten zu sechs Monaten Haft auf Bewährung verurteilt. Dies zeigt
offensichtlich, wie das Rechtssystem Menschen belohnt, die die Gewalt
und die Widersprüche mit denen wir jeden Tag konfrontiert sind
verleugnen und ein Lippenbekenntnis zum Staat ablegen. Eine andere
Person, die nicht bei der Räumung festgenommen wurde, aber bei der
Verhaftung anwesend war und wegen Widerstand gegen die Staatsgewalt
angeklagt war, wurde zu 7 Monaten Haft auf Bewährung verurteilt.

Auch diejenigen von uns ohne europaeischen Pass wurden entgegen
aehnlichen Faellen verurteilt. Nicht alle von uns haben die Möglichkeit
zu entscheiden wie sie leben möchten und manche suchten nur nach einer
würdevolleren Unterkunft als die Camps um Thessaloniki. Es ist ein
Versuch die Unterdrückten davon abzuhalten, aktiv und verbal gegen ihre
Unterdrückung und Marginalisierung vorzugehen.

Das ganz klar politische Gerichtsverfahren und die populistische
Medienkampagne, die sie begleitet hat, zeigen einmal mehr, dass ein
System, das nur Mehrwert und Leistung kennt weder fähig noch willens ist
die Grundbedürfnisse der Menschen zu decken. Eigentum ist die Grundlage
dieses Systems, das die Unterschiede zwischen arm und reicht, europäisch
und nicht-europäisch konstatiert und manifestiert und somit entscheidet
wer das Recht auf ein Leben in Würde hat und wer nicht.

Obwohl wir uns freuen, dass die Besitzer*innen es nicht schaffen werden,
uns mit der Hilfe des Rechtssystems Geld abzunötigen, werden wir das
Urteil nicht akzeptieren. Zusammen mit unseren Anwält*innen sind wir
zuversichtlich in einem Berufungsverfahren einen Freispruch erwirken zu
können.

[Thessaloniki] Hurriya-Prozess erneut verschoben

Der Prozess gegen die 58 angeklagten Besetzer*innen des Hurriya-Squats wurde heute (8. November 2017) erneut verschoben. Diesmal auf September 2018.

Was das für den Prozessverlauf und unser weiteres Vorgehen bedeutet, werden wir nach dem nächsten Prozesstermin gegen die Besetzer*innen des Albatros-Squats Mitte Dezember auswerten.

 

[Thessaloniki] Prozess gegen Hurriya Besetzer*innen erneut verschoben

Am vergangenen Donnerstag, den 22.06.17, fand in Thessaloniki ein weiterer Prozesstag gegen die über 50 angeklagten Besetzer*innen des Hurriya statt. Der Prozess wurde ein weiteres Mal verschoben, diesmal auf den 8.11.2017.
